Water is a precious resource that we can’t live without; from supplying drinking water and supporting fisheries, to providing an essential resource to business and agriculture, and a source of recreation.
Water pollution and drought threaten these things. Therefore it is critical that our rivers, lakes, estuaries, coastal areas, wetlands and groundwater are managed properly. This ensures the needs of society, the economy and wildlife can be met and maintained over the long-term.
River basin planning provides an overarching strategic framework for managing that water environment. River basin management plans include the objectives and actions required to protect and improve the water environment. Water and land resources are closely linked and so river basin management plans also inform decisions on land-use planning and work alongside other strategies, such as flood risk management plans.

New Barbel For The Loddon & Blackwater Rivers
The EA have carried out a stocking of 1000 Barbel into the Rivers Blackwater near Yateley, and Loddon at Swallowfield, Arborfield and Sandford Lane near Hurst, along with some Crucians to Swallowfield ACs Decoy Pond.The eighteen month old barbel were sourced from the Environment Agency’s Calverton Fish Farm based near to Nottingham and were transported to the River Loddon in oxygenated tanks. Following a long day on the road the fish swam off strongly and sought the cover of marginal vegetation. The river was just fining down after heavy rainfall a couple of weeks ago providing us good conditions for stocking. This stocking has followed the recent capture of one of 20 Barbel that were introduced into the Loddon at Swallowfield in 2015. This fish has grown from roughly 10oz to just over 2lbs and was caught only yards from where it was stocked.
The LFCC can also report that they have been assisting the EA and Blackwater Valley Partnership in efforts to control Floating Pennywort at 4 locations around Yateley and stop it becoming established in the River Blackwater. Anglers familiar with the Thames around Sonning and the Foudry Brook in Reading should be well aware of the harm that this plant can cause. Southampton To London Pipeline Project

According to the latest Trout and Salmon organisations, this may affect Wey, Gelvert Stream, Cove Brook and Blackwater. But, that's not to say that other waters will not be affected.
Please take a look at this link to a public consultation on a proposed route for a new fuel pipeline from ESSO. The exact route can be hard to work out but it looks as if at least the Gelvert Stream , Cove Brook and Blackwater may be affected. Putting in a pipeline may cause disruption to fishing and cause sediments to enter water courses. Check to see if you will be affected and if so, do respond to the consultation.
