Possible Low Flows On the Loddon (Swallowfield) Over Bank Holiday Weekend
We have been notified by the Environment Agency that they will be fitting a baffle system to the weir at Sheepbridge (Swallowfield), starting 22-08-19 and is due to finish early next week. As a result of this, the downstream levels may be lower than normal, however siphons will be running to help maintain flow which will be being monitored.
We would ask all members who intend fishing over the next few days to be aware of the situation, but also to report anything abnormal that mat be happening over this period such as fish in distress etc. The hotline number is 0800 80 70 60.
We would hope that once complete, it will aid in fish migration both up and down stream.

Angling Trust Development Funds
The Angling Trust is aware of the need for newer, safer facilities, better habitats and more accessible facilities to enable clubs, fisheries and other angling organisations to flourish and attract anglers.
Unfortunately, funding from traditional sources such as local authorities has become much harder to find, and better-known funding schemes, such as those offered by Sport England, attract heavy competition from across all sports.
To help increase the availability of funding for angling, the Angling Trust, in partnership with the Environment Agency, launched the Angling Improvement Fund (AIF). Due to the fact that money distributed as AIF awards is derived from income from the sale of the Environment Agency’s non-migratory trout and coarse fishing licences, projects located outside of England - and projects primarily supporting salmon and sea trout angling and/or sea angling organisations - are not eligible to apply.

Environment Agency Fish Rearing Unit Visit, Calverton, 7th June 2019
This visit being lead by the Loddon Fisheries & Conservation Consultative is a rare opportunity to visit the EA's National Fish Rearing Unit at Calverton north of Nottingham. It is hoped to see eggs and fry of a number of coarse fish species, with a guided tour around the facilities. It will give an insight in the operation and challenges of running the unit, whilst we should go away with a greater understanding of the requirements of many of the species that are a valuable and often hidden part of our aquatic fauna. The staff at Calverton have a huge amount of experience gained over a period of over 30 years, much of it built around enthusiasm to protect and enhance our fish populations.
Places are limited - Flyer download here.
