New Updated UK Sewage Map - The Rivers Trust

With enhanced data visualisation, new interactive features and added data sets, this year's version of the map is an essential tool for anybody concerned about river health. The update allows you to filter the data by parliamentary constituency or water company area, using a new investigative dashboard with supporting information for the public and interest groups. See what actions are being taken to combat spills, download local data to hold politicians and polluters to account, and see which waterways are being impacted.

The map was first produced in 2019 and has been a key driving force behind the public pressure that led the government to address sewage pollution in the Environment Act. Following the release of government data on Thursday showing sewage spilled 463,654 times for a total of 3.4 million hours in 2021, alongside the government’s unambitious Storm Overflows Discharge Reduction Plan, the map is more vital than ever as a free, public data resource that provides fuel for campaigns and transparency about the state of our rivers. We want wild, healthy, natural rivers, valued by all - rivers fit to swim in.

Our map gives a clear picture of where the problems are, how severe they are and what needs to be done to fix them.
