Loddon Catchment Receives Young Barbel
The River Loddon received 400 barbel which were introduced into several locations. These fish came from the Environment Agency’s Calverton Fish Farm based near to Nottingham.
Calverton produces 480 000 fish a year comprising of many species which are stocked into our rivers and lakes. Fish are stocked all around the country into suitable locations where Pollution incidents have affected fish populations, where habitat improvement has been carried out or where the EA trying to develop fisheries.
The barbel were transported in oxygenated tanks on the back of a 4x4 vehicle and were introduced to shallow riffle areas which is perfect habitat for the 18 month old fish to thrive.
